ROLLER CAGES
Malossi roller cages are independent bearings, ready for assembly and made of high-strength steel with housings for the insertion and axial rotation of the needle rollers.
These devices are designed to allow reciprocal movement between two objects, preserving the rotation seat and supporting the rotating elements with minimal space, negligible weight and reduced friction.
These are essential components in internal combustion engines which, by definition, have numerous parts in rotary motion.
As can be seen from the image, a roller cage is made up of a body (cage) with housings inside which the rollers are placed, held in their seat but free to rotate axially: it is precisely on the rollers that the external rotating surface rests and it is thanks to them that the rotation between the two components occurs.
Since these parts are subjected to continuous acceleration and deceleration and consequently to considerable inertial forces, it is essential that the cage combines considerable lightness with high robustness and manufacturing precision and that the rollers are perfectly cylindrical and are selected and coupled in dimensional classes with extremely low tolerances, in the order of microns.
The cage itself must be made to extremely tight tolerances as it must keep the rollers separate and guide them correctly. In addition, the slots in which the rollers are housed must be perfectly parallel to each other to avoid unwanted motion of the rotating elements and the resulting collateral axial thrusts, which would cause severe overheating, drastically reducing the life of the component.
Malossi has selected the best roller cages on the market to guarantee the best performance and unparalleled reliability. Only components equipped with roller cages with very tight tolerances and made of heat-treated steel, with exceptional mechanical resistance and hardness, have been chosen.
In a limited selection of applications, the cages feature an aluminum surface protection that ensures greater resistance to wear and even lower rotational friction. For applications requiring even greater resistance, surface protections in copper have been used, a material that, in addition to reducing friction and protecting against wear, ensures better heat dispersion, allowing the cage to function correctly even when subjected to more severe stresses in high-temperature atmospheres.
